GS3 Soil Moisture Sensor

A moisture sensor for soilless substrates such as rockwool, potting soil, peat, and perlite. The GS3 measures water content, temperature, and bulk electrical conductivity. Its stainless steel needles have an extended surface area to optimize EC measurements and minimize substrate disturbance during insertion. Standard with both serial and SDI-12 communication.

Same Internal Circuitry, Optimized New Form Factor

The GS3 soil moisture, temperature, and EC sensor is the most recent sensor in the Decagon lineup. The inner circuitry is the same cutting edge tech that you'll find in alternative Decagon soil moisture sensors, but the form factor has been enhanced for use in soilless media or difficult environments, giving it a larger range of EC measurement and an increased temperature range. The steel needles slice through the substrates for perfect contact, and improve the sensor's ability to measure EC in porous substrates such as peat or perlite. Additionally, the sensor performs exceptionally well in mineral soils.

Accuracy at a Fraction of the Cost

The GS3 measures water content, temperature, and EC separately. Its 70 MHz frequency reduces salinity and textural influence, making it precise in most soil types and soilless media. Stainless steel needles have a larger surface area to improve EC measurements, while minimizing substrate disturbance during insertion. Temperature is measured with an onboard thermistor, and electrical conductivity is measured using stainless steel electrodes.

Understand Your Measurements

When used in sync with our DataTrac 3 software, your GS3 data can be used to calculate plant available water, growing degree days, and pore water electrical conductivity.

Integrate with Campbell Scientific Data Loggers

Each GS3 comes by default with serial and SDI-12 communication options, meaning simple integration with systems manufactured by other companies (such as Campbell Scientific).

Reasons to Pick the GS3:

    • If you need to measure VWC, EC, and temperature in soilless substrates or harsh environments.

    • If you are managing salts in your system.

    • If you want to use SDI-12.

Operating Environment:-40 to 60°C
